Laying the groundwork for an even more dynamic and visible network on herbal veterinary medicine, the three-day meeting brought together experts from 13 countries to discuss current challenges and future priorities. Among the highlights were updates on cooperation with other COST Actions, including weedingMAPs (CA23123) and ENVIRANT (CA23154). As well as the establishment of contact with the EU commission’s consultant firms Arcadia International, Milieu Consulting, and VetEffecT, who are currently conducting a study on the use of traditional herbal veterinary medicinal products within the European Union. A follow-up meeting in Brussels is being considered for early 2026 to further strengthen this connection.
Leadership updates included new appointments to improve coordination across working groups. Bogdan Cekić will officially join as WG6 co-leader, while Ivona Foitová will support the grant coordination team and co-lead WG3.
Looking ahead to the third grant period, the Core Group agreed on an ambitious work plan, including the development of a Manual on the 20 most common herbs in European Veterinary Medicine and contributions to the European Commission’s work on harmonized registration of herbal veterinary products. Participants agreed on the need for more regular and engaging scientific communication, ranging from social media updates to educational materials and news on the project’s website.
The meeting concluded with a shared sense of commitment and collaboration, to facilitate MedPlants4Vet’s growth as a European hub for advancing knowledge and practice in herbal veterinary medicine.
