MedPlants4Vet experts from various complementary fields – veterinary medicine, pharmacognosy, pharmacology, toxicology – coming from different sectors, including academia, industry, and authorities, completed a process description for generating herbal veterinary monographs. Their interdisciplinary collaboration ensures that the approach reflects both scientific rigor and practical applicability across the veterinary and regulatory landscape. These monographs serve as comprehensive summaries of the scientific (and regulatory) evidence available on the use of herbal substances and their preparations in veterinary medicine.

The main goal of these documents is to support the medicinal use of herbal products in veterinary practice, ensuring that their use is based on well-documented knowledge and best practices. In addition, the monographs are intended to act as reference tools that can facilitate a simplified authorization process for traditional herbal veterinary medicinal products.

At the heart of the process is the development of a criteria catalogue, designed to uphold quality, safety, and sustainability standards. This approach ensures that herbal veterinary medicinal products are safe and effective for animal users, protect consumers of animal-derived foods, and respect environmental sustainability principles.
