Statistical Analysis and Evaluation of Registered HVMP Across Europe

Through a MP4V Virtual Mobility grant, Eyup Bilgi developed reusable visual tools to analyse registered herbal veterinary medicinal products across Europe. The work supports clearer comparison of HVMP data over time, countries and use categories.

All figures are produced from a flexible, reusable code base, ensuring that the visuals can be easily updated as the MP4V inventory expands. (Graph created by Eyup Bilgi)

From 15 August to 12 September 2025, a Virtual Mobility grant under CA22109 supported Eyup Bilgi in conducting a statistical analysis and visual evaluation of registered herbal veterinary medicinal products (HVMPs) across Europe. The work resulted in a reusable visual toolkit designed to make complex regulatory and inventory data easier to interpret and compare.

The toolkit includes binary and ternary Sankey diagrams as well as time-coverage maps, enabling clear visualisation of dominant patterns and existing gaps. In parallel, quick single-parameter descriptive statistics were generated, covering variables such as administration routes, pharmaceutical forms, plant parts and species, countries, and ATCvet codes.

The work produced quick, single‑parameter descriptive statistics (e.g., routes, forms, plant parts, plant species, countries, ATCvet codes) alongside figure libraries that link key variables to show dominant flows and gaps. Three‑way Sankeys reveal multifactorial patterns such as Country–Animal Species–ATCvet or Composition–Plant Species–Pharmaceutical Form, supporting clearer interpretation for non‑specialists. Time‑coverage matrices summarize when products have been on the market (1900–2025), enabling historical, country‑by‑country comparison. All visuals are generated from a flexible code base so they can be refreshed as the inventory grows and are ready to be embedded in WG manuscripts and presentations.
