Quality Control of WG2 Inventory Data

During her Virtual Mobility within the MedPlants4Vet Action, Anna-Maria Huber worked on the systematic quality control of the Working Group 2 (WG2) inventory. Between August 1 and September 1, 2025, she focused on improving the accuracy, consistency and reliability of this key dataset, under the supervision of PD Dr. Michael Walkenhorst from the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL.

The WG2 inventory contains data from various herbal veterinay medicinal products from all over Europe (more than 2000 entries and 25 variables). This comprehensive table forms the foundation for future analysis within WG2 and WG6. Since the data is contributed by experts from many different institutions, a systematic qualitic check was necessary to harmonize entries and make the dataset suitable for further use. During the Virtual Mobility, all existing contributions were carefully reviewed, corrected where necessary, and aligned with the agreed standards. This process not only improved the technical and scientific quality of the dataset but also raised awareness among contributors about the importance of  consistency and precision in their entries.

In addition, supportive tools were introduced to make data submission easier and more consistent, helping to bridge differences in technical infrastructure across participating institutions. By the end of the activity, the WG2 dataset had been significantly strengthened. It now provides a robust and trustworthy basis for subsequent work, including statistical analyses and the preparation of the online inventory.

Planned follow-up: To maintain this progress, future efforts will focus on ongoing data validation  and preparing the dataset for upcoming analytical steps. In this way, the Virtual Mobility has laid an excellent groundwork for ensuring that WG2 outputs can be published with confidence and contribute effectively to the overall goals of the MedPlants4Vet Action.
