Attracting around 60 participants, including veterinarians, researchers, animal nutritionists, students, and horse owners, the event provided an ideal platform to introduce the aims of the COST Action MedPlants4Vet network and the progress made by Working Group 4.
In his flash talk and accompanying poster, Prof. Hunyadi outlined the expert-based scoring system developed by Working Group 4 to identify plant species that could be considered for a simplified registration procedure as herbal veterinary medicinal products in Europe. This system reflects the evaluation of 25 experts from 11 countries who collaboratively assessed the scientific and traditional evidence supporting the medicinal use of selected plants.
The presentation represented a further step in MedPlants4Vet’s efforts to connect scientific knowledge with practical application in veterinary herbal medicine. Through its work on harmonized assessment methods, the COST Action supports ongoing discussions on regulatory approaches and the responsible use of medicinal plants in animal care.
