Bogdan Cekić, co-leader of Working Group 6 (Dissemination & Interaction), introduced MedPlants4Vet during the Project Presentation Session on 31 October. His talk outlined how the Action brings together experts across Europe to explore the role of medicinal plants in veterinary practice through an evidence-based and interdisciplinary approach.

He provided an overview of the six Working Groups, which address topics such as legislation and regulatory harmonization, the creation of an inventory of herbal veterinary medicinal products, documentation of European ethnoveterinary traditions, and the development of frameworks for safety, quality assurance, and sustainability. The presentation also emphasized the involvement of diverse stakeholder communities and the importance of coordinated communication throughout Europe.

In his talk, Cekić referred to the broader regulatory landscape shaped by EU Regulation 2019/6 and the forthcoming 2027 European Commission report on traditional herbal veterinary products. This report will assess whether a simplified registration system for such products could be introduced. Within this context, MedPlants4Vet contributes to generate harmonized definitions, databases, and training resources to support future research and policy development.

The themes addressed by MedPlants4Vet closely reflected the scientific focus of the symposium. Several presentations at the event explored plant-based feed additives, bioactive compounds, and phytogenic approaches, highlighting the relevance of MedPlants4Vet’s objectives to ongoing research in animal nutrition and health. This thematic alignment led to strong interest among participants, who discussed opportunities for collaboration, Short-Term Scientific Missions, and joint publications.
